I have no personality.
I shared this same image and bit of writing last year, but I felt that it needed to be posted again. May we never forget for as long as we live and the air in our lungs is free.   Sixty seven years ago today marks the anniversary of this famous photograph being taken by photographer Joseph Rosenthal on February 23rd, 1945. It is arguably the most famous photograph to be taken during the Second World War. Pictured are five U.S. Marines and a Navy Corpsman raising a flag over the heavily fortified, smelly, and smoldering island known as Iwo Jima in the South Pacific. It did not mark the end of the battle which raged for weeks to come, nor was it the first or the last flag to be raised there. However, as history would tell us, their picture and story became a symbol of hope and triumph in a world surrounded by chaos and downfall. Three of the Marines in this photograph were dead within three weeks of it being taken. Was their sacrifice and the lives of so many others worth it?
